Autism in the News
We've received a lot of calls concerning recent press reports that Tylenol (acetaminophen) is associated with an increased risk of autism. Harbor Pediatrics agrees with the American Academy of Pediatrics position statement that using Tylenol as directed does not increase a child's risk of developing autism.
Families are also reaching out to us about the use of a medication called leucovorin to treat autism. Here again, we agree with the findings of the American Academy of Pediatrics that leucovorin has not yet been demonstrated as broadly effective in treating autism. Harbor Pediatrics does not prescribe this medication as an autism treatment.
